COLUMBUS – Police are investigating a fiery one-vehicle crash on the West Side that left one person dead early Monday, the third fatal accident in less than three days in Franklin County.

A Chevrolet SUV was eastbound on Sullivant Avenue, west of Catherine Street, at 2:15 a.m. when its driver lost control and the vehicle spun sideways into a wooden utility pole at the southeast corner of Sullivant Avenue and Catherine Street, Sgt. Brooke Wilson of the Accident Investigation Unit said
The crash resulted in a fire that consumed the vehicle and damaged the front of Dudley’s Tattoos, the business at 1641 Sullivant Avenue, Wilson said.
Columbus fire personnel extinguished the fire but the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, Wilson said.
The victim had not been identified Monday afternoon.
The investigation is ongoing.
This was the 11 fatal traffic crash in Columbus in 2019, resulting in 13 fatalities, Wilson said.
