COLUMBUS – Police were questioning two people after a man was killed in an apparent shootout on the East Side Sunday morning but no charges had been filed as of early Monday.
Officers investigating a report of a body lying against a fence in the 1300 block of Gault Street at 7:42 a.m. found Jayelin Wilson, 23, in the alley, Homicide Unit Sgt. Eric Pilya said. He had had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus Division of Fire personnel.
The preliminary investigation indicated that there had been a gun battle between the victim and at least one other person, Pilya said.
Two people walked into Grant Medical Center with gunshot wounds and Pilya says detectives are still investigating the nature of their involvement in the incident.
This is the 37th homicide of 2019 in Columbus.
