One dead in West Side crash

COLUMBUS, Ohio – One person was killed overnight on the West Side when the SUV she was riding in hit a house.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies were investigating the crash in the 3300 block of Fisher Road, where the victim – a woman, according to broadcast reports — was thrown from a Ford Explorer that went out of control and crashed into the side of a house, Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott said.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Fisher Road, east of Wilson Road in Franklin Township, just after 12:20 a.m. when the driver lost control and the SUV went off the right side of the road, ejected the passenger and struck the house, Scott says.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was transported to the hospital in stable condition, Scott said.

Scott says neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt and it was not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol was a factor.

The names are being withheld until family notification can be made.
