FARIBAULT, Minn. (AP) – Authorities have charged a Minnesota man with killing a suicidal Columbus woman he met online.
A criminal complaint filed Monday in Rice County District Court says Chelsea Martinez, 26, traveled to Faribault in southern Minnesota to meet Jason Nisbit to talk about suicide.
The Faribault Daily News reports the complaint says they met at a motel July 31 and agreed to meet the next morning. It says they drove separately to a park, then walked to a wooded area where Nisbit, 39, bound her hands and feet, strangled her until she lost consciousness, then cut her throat.
The Columbus Dispatch reports Martinez’ sister reported her missing Aug. 1 after seeing a Facebook post indicating she was suicidal.
Court records don’t list an attorney who could comment for Nisbit.
