Opa! Greek Festival returns

COLUMBUS – Celebrate the unofficial end of summer with some loukaniko, gyros or moussaka at the annual Greek Festival this weekend in the Short North.

43rd annual Greek Festival, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, High and Goodale Streets. Hours: Friday and Saturday 11:00 a.m. – midnight; Sunday noon – midnight; Monday, 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Admission: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and free for those under 12.

Street closings: W. Swan Street will be closed between High Street and Park Street from 7:00 a.m. on Thursday until 10:00 p.m. on Monday. W. Goodale Street will be closed between High and Park from 4:00 a.m. Friday until 10:00 p.m. Monday. Guests are encouraged to carpool or use COTA to help with parking and reduce traffic. The festival is on COTA’s free CBUS Circulator route.

The three-day festival is an opportunity to immerse yourself in Greek food, like pastitsio, moussaka, grape leaves, cheese and spinach pies, gyro, souvlaki, loukaniko (Greek lamb burgers), and top it off with desserts like baklava, loukomades and more.

Those attending the festival have the opportunity to learn how to prepare the food with cooking demonstrations.

There will be traditional Greek folk dance performances and imported Greek items such as clothing, jewelry, accessories, bath and beauty products, and fine art.
