OSU imposes travel restrictions due to coronavirus

COLUMBUS – In response to the international coronavirus outbreak that has killed at least 490 people in China, Ohio State has announced new travel guidelines for faculty, staff and students.

Anyone who has returned from China since Sunday will not be allowed to come to work, go to class or participate in any campus or community activity for 14 days, according to a statement on the university’s website.

Those who returned before Sunday should watch for high fevers or respirator symptoms.

The university announced last week that university-sponsored travel to China is prohibited until at least March 6.

Two Miami University students who may have contracted the disease were cleared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier this week. There are no possible or confirmed cases of the virus in Ohio.

U.S. airlines have announced temporary cancellation of service to and from China and the federal government has also placed new restrictions on some non-U.S. citizens and permanent residents coming to the U.S. who have recently been in China, where the death toll has risen to at least 490 and the number of new cases increased Tuesday to over 24,000.
