OSU Off-week: Meyer encouraged by offense

COLUMBUS – Coach Urban Meyer says he likes the progress of the Buckeyes’ offense in the past month. He says quarterback J.T. Barrett and the passing game is clicking with Penn State and other tougher games looming after the bye week.

Sixth-ranked OSU has made great strides since the unexpected loss to Oklahoma in the second week of the season.

The past five opponents have been blown out by the surging Buckeyes but Penn State features the league’s stingiest defense at just nine points allowed per game and the odds-on favorite to win this year’s Heisman Trophy, running back Saquon Barkley.

Their next opponent is a team contending for one of the four College Football Playoff spots but faces a treacherous stretch of games over the next three weeks.

The Nittany Lions were elbowed out of the playoff last year but are well positioned right now as the No. 2 team in The Associated Press poll. They play Michigan at home this week before facing back-to-back road games against the Buckeyes and Michigan State.
