OSU reviewing process after mistaken alert

COLUMBUS – OSU officials say they are reviewing the procedures used when issuing campus emergency alerts after a message saying there was an “active attacker” on campus was sent to desktop computers by mistake Monday.

The university’s Department of Public Safety tweeted that the message was sent as a result of human error that occurred during a test at approximately 12:30 p.m. involving the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security.

A second message informing the public that the alert was a mistake was sent to smartphones as well as computers, which confused those who did not know about the original, erroneous message.
