COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ameryst Alston poured in 30 points to lead Ohio State to a 71-62 win over Northwestern Sunday at Value City Arena.
The sophomore stole a little of the spotlight from the team’s seniors, playing their final home game, and helped Ohio State end a five-game losing streak.
The Buckeyes (15-15, 5-9) jumped out to a 41-21 halftime lead, shooting 48.5 percent from the field and scoring 26 points off Wildcat turnovers.
The Buckeyes would need most of the 20-point cushion as they were outscored by Northwestern (14-13, 4-10) 41-30 in the second half.
Martina Ellerbe added 13 points for Ohio State and Raven Ferguson came off the bench to chip in 11 while pulling down 9 rebounds.
Maggie Lyon led the Wildcats with 21 points.
