Police say someone shot Tarek Andrew Underiner several times inside a home on E. Northwood Avenue around midnight but the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Officers were called to the home around 12:30 a.m. found Underiner, 20, unresponsive and suffering from several gunshot wounds, homicide unit Sgt. Jeff Strayer said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Underiner was believed to be a current student at OSU but Strayer says investigators did not think the incident was connected to the university, nor do they think it was random.

The investigation continues, Strayer said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
