OSU’s Haskins, PSU’s Sanders Big Ten players of the week

COLUMBUS – The Big Ten’s Co-Offensive Players of the Week will be going head-to-head in a prime-time matchup when their teams meet in a key Big Ten East Division contest this Saturday night.

(4) Ohio State (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) at (9) Penn State (4-0, 1-0): Beaver Stadium, State College, Pa.; Sat., Sept. 29 (7:30 p.m./ABC)

Dwayne Haskins, the sophomore quarterback for the Buckeyes, and Nittany Lions junior running back Miles Sanders shared the conference’s weekly honors after leading their teams to their fourth wins of the season this week.

Haskins played just one half of the Buckeyes’ 49-6 win over Tulane but still completed 21 of 24 passes for 304 yards and five touchdowns, which ties his career high set three weeks earlier against Oregon State.

Through the first four games, Haskins is completing 75.7 percent of his passes, which ranks No. 2 nationally, as does his 16 touchdown passes, second most in Big Ten history to start a season.

Sanders notched career highs with 200 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries in Penn State’s 63-24 win over Illinois Friday night.

Sanders became the sixth player in Penn State history to have 200 rushing yards and at least three rushing touchdowns in a game, the first since Larry Johnson in 2002.
