Over 100 arrested during Hallowe’en in Athens

ATHENS, Ohio – More than 100 people will appear in Athens County courtrooms today, after being rounded up during the annual Halloween street parties at Ohio University.

City police say they arrested 45 people, mostly for alcohol violations, during Ohio University’s annual Halloween block party, which drew thousands of revelers to uptown Athens Saturday night and early Sunday.

The Ohio Investigative Unit, which enforces alcohol laws, cited or arrested another 55 people for offenses such as underage drinking. The number of arrests by Ohio University police was not available.

City police said 13 OU students were arrested during the annual costume bash. Another 13 were students from other colleges, and 19 were non-students.

Disorderly conduct by intoxication topped the list of charges. One person was arrested for assaulting a police horse.

Athens police said ambulance crews responded to 53 calls for assistance during the event.
