COLUMBUS, Ohio – A review board has found that seven Columbus officers acted within police department policy during a shootout last year that left two suspects dead.
The board found the officers acted within the agency’s firearms policy in the May 15, 2013, shooting on the North Side, spokesman Sgt. Rich Weiner said.
The confrontation occurred when the officers tried to pull over an SUV with a homicide suspect inside. Someone inside the SUV began firing at officers.
By the time the SUV crashed into the parking lot of a fire station, seven officers had fired nearly 200 times.
Killed were Emmanuel Gatewood and his girlfriend, Kourtney Hahn. Gatewood was a suspect in an April 2013 slaying.
Weiner says Officers Ty Stoneking and Daniel Wolf were treated for minor injuries from glass shards suffered during the shooting and released from Riverside Methodist Hospital.
The county grand jury declined to indict the officers.
