Pelotonia shifts gears

COLUMBUS – Due to the coronavirus and various restrictions on gatherings, the organizers of Pelotonia are replacing their usual mass bike ride with a new platform that emphasizes personal goals.

The new launching My Pelotonia on June 2, allowing participants to define personal challenges and fundraising goals for a more personal experience.

There will be a virtual Opening Ceremony broadcast on August 7.

While cycling is still encouraged, participants can ride, walk, run, volunteer or create their own activity.

Registration fees and required fundraising commitments have been waived and there’s no minimum age requirement.

Since its founding in 2008, Pelotonia has raised over $208 million for cancer research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center/Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

The Columbus City Schools will hold virtual commencement ceremonies for graduating seniors at all 19 district high schools, complete with caps and gowns and commencement speakers.

District officials announced that NBC Today Show host and weatherman Al Roker and his wife,  ABC News correspondent Deborah Roberts, will deliver the keynote address.

The virtual graduation ceremonies will take place during the week of June 22 through the 27 and will be streamed live on the Columbus City Schools Facebook page and YouTube channel and aired on the Columbus Educational Access channel.

The Columbus Metropolitan Library is expanding its curbside pickup service to four more branches as part of its planned phased reopening.

Starting Tuesday, May 26, service will be available at these branches:

Dublin Branch, 75 N. High St.
Northern Lights Branch, 4093 Cleveland Ave.
Southeast Branch, 3980 S. Hamilton Rd.
Whetstone Branch, 3909 N. High St.

Curbside pickup will be available Monday-Thursday, 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. with no service on Sunday.

Last week, the library announced curbside pickup at its Gahanna, Hilliard and Parsons branches.
