Perkins departing Columbus school board

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The search is underway for a new member of the Columbus school board.

Carol Perkins announced yesterday she’ll resign at the end of the month to spend more time with her family.

Perkins spent more than six years on the school board, including five as its president. Her term coincided with the initial revelations of data-scrubbing in the district and the defeat at the polls of a levy request.

Perkins’ resignation is expected to be accepted by the board at its Jan. 21r meeting, according to a release from the district

Perkins was selected by the board in 2007 to fill the unexpired term of former member Andrew Ginther. She was subsequently elected to the board in November, 2007, and reelected in 2009.

Her five years as president makes her one of the longest-serving board presidents in the district’s history.
