Pickerington schools back to normal

COLUMBUS, Ohio – There will be a heightened law enforcement presence in the Pickerington Local School District today when classes resume after students spent much of Wednesday afternoon under lockdown following a threat.

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the threat, which was phoned in to Pickerington High School North at approximately 11:30 a.m., district superintendent Valerie Browning-Thompson said in a post on the district’s website.

“The Sheriff’s Office is keeping us informed of their investigation. Our plan is to conduct school as usual… and there will be increased law enforcement presences,” she wrote.

ABC6/FOX28 report that the caller threatened to shoot students.

Thompson says North High School was immediately locked down and, as a precaution, all school buildings in the district were locked down later.

Afternoon kindergarten classes and all after-school and evening activities were canceled.

The Fairfield County Sheriff and Ohio State Highway Patrol were on the scene at the high school north. Pickerington police contributed to the law enforcement presence at all other schools.
