Plan would designate Arena District an “outdoor refreshment area”

COLUMBUS – The area around Nationwide Arena, Huntington Park and the new Columbus Crew stadium would become a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area if Columbus City Council approves an application from Mayor Andrew Ginther.

A designated refreshment area – or DORA — in the Arena District would allow visitors to buy alcoholic beverages from participating bars and restaurants and then take those drinks with them outside and into other participating restaurants, bars and stores within the designated area on days when the Blue Jackets, Clippers or Crew are playing home games.

The DORA regulations would be in effect from three hours prior to the start of a game until 11:59 p.m.

Council has scheduled a virtual public hearing on the proposal for June 24.

DORA’s have been allowed in Ohio since 2015.
