COLUMBUS – Another birthday party is scheduled for today at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium as two of three polar bear cubs born at the zoo in 2016 turn a year old.

The animal care team in the zoo’s Polar Frontier region will be celebrating the occasion by providing Neva and Nuniq and their mother, Aurora (above), with special birthday-themed activities, which will be streamed live on Facebook.
Aurora welcomed her cubs on November 14, 2016, a little less than a week after their cousin, Amelia Gray, was born, the only three polar bears born in a North American zoo facility last year, zoo officials say
Neva – a female whose name means “white snow,” and is also a river in Russia — now weighs 247 pounds. Nuniq, a male whose name is a derivative of Nanuq, the cubs’ late father, weighs in at 397 pounds.
Aurora’s own twin, Anana, welcomed Amelia on November 8, 2016, and a birthday party for her was held last week.
