Police: 2-year-old shot by 4-year-old brother

COLUMBUS – A 2-year-old girl was expected to survive after being accidentally shot by her 4-year-old brother on the Northeast Side early Wednesday, but a man shot outside an East Side store Tuesday afternoon was the 92nd homicide victim of 2020 in Columbus.

The toddler was shot just before 1:15 a.m. in the 2300 block of Brentnell Boulevard and was taken Nationwide Children’s Hospital in stable condition, according to the Columbus Division of Police Twitter feed.

The children’s mother was putting them to bed when the boy found the gun, which the mother thought was unloaded, and fired it, grazing his sister, police tweeted.

It wasn’t immediately clear who else was in the home at the time of the shooting.

The children’s names have not been released.

No other injuries were reported in the shooting, which remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, officers responding to a shooting at 5125 E. Main Street at 12:48 p.m. found Adnan Ma Saleh in front of one of the stores in the strip mall suffering from gunshot wounds, Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Homicide Unit said.

Saleh, 31, was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m.

Pilya says witnesses reported two black male suspects shot Saleh and drove away eastbound in a dark colored vehicle.

The investigation continues.
