Police arrest suspect in 2 Linden slayings

COLUMBUS – A Northeast Side man is behind bars, charged with two murders in Columbus this spring.

Rashad Short, whose address was in the 900 block of E. 17th Avenue, was arrested Tuesday on arrest warrants charging him with the murders of Jordan Gray on April 23 and Dante McCormick on May 27, said Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit.

Gray, 21, was found by police in the driver’s seat of a U-Haul truck in the 800 block of Tulane Road in Linden at 2:01 a.m. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and died later at Riverside Medical Center.

Investigators said a man wearing a red mask walked up to the truck, fired numerous rounds at Gray and then got fled the scene in a silver SUV, Shimberg said.

Short, 29, was also charged with murder in McCormick’s death in a shooting just a few blocks away the following month that also injured another man, Shimberg said.

Officers found McCormick, 19, lying in front of home in the 2700 block of Pontiac Street, suffering from gunshot wounds, at 1:21 a.m. on May 27. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Tazion Germany, 19, also suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to an area hospital.

Short was in the Franklin County Jail Thursday morning.
