Police ask for help locating hit-skip driver

COLUMBUS – Police are circulating security camera photos of a fatal hit-and-run accident in hopes of getting the public’s help in locating the vehicle suspected of striking the victim’s motorcycle in a campus-area intersection last month.

Just after 4:30 on the morning of Dec. 12, accident investigators say Robert Hilleman, 27, was riding his 1994 Honda Shadow northbound on N. High Street at the intersection with Hudson Street when an oncoming vehicle (at far right in photo) failed to yield while making a left turn from High Street to eastbound Hudson Street .

The vehicle struck the motorcycle and continued eastbound on Hudson Street, said Sgt. Brooke Wilson of the Accident Investigation Unit.

Hilleman, seen in the photo lying in the intersection, died as a result of his injuries on Dec. 29, Wilson said.

After reviewing area security video, police say they are asking for the public’s help in identifying the car, which may be dark blue or black.

If anyone has any information regarding the crash or the identity of the driver of the suspect vehicle, they are asked to contact Columbus Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit at 614-645-4767.
