COLUMBUS – A bank robbery suspect shot by Columbus police officers last month has turned out to be the man known as the “Buckeye Bandit.”
Ikechi Emeaghara is charged with one federal count of armed bank robbery and is suspected of approximately 30 holdups in the Central Ohio area dating back to 2013, according to Columbus police spokesman Sgt. Rich Weiner.
Emeaghara, 27, was wounded by Columbus police officers after leading them on a brief chase to the area of Lakehurst Court following an alleged bank robbery on Oct. 21, Weiner said. He was transported to Grant Medical Center and was released on Tuesday.
The police shooting is still under investigation by the Critical Incident Response Team, Weiner said.
