COLUMBUS – What goes up must come down and that is why the Columbus Division of Police is teaming up with a major outdoor advertising firm to spread the word about the dangers of celebratory gunfire on New Year’s Eve.
Lamar Advertising has erected 18 billboards around the city with messages reminding resident that ringing in the New Year with celebratory gunfire is potentially deadly and against the law.
Reportedly, Columbus police received over 300 gun-related calls at or around midnight on Dec. 31 in 2013 and 2014.
In 2005, a 16-year-old girl was killed by stray gunfire while in her South Side home.
