Police ID hit-skip victim, still search for driver

COLUMBUS – Police have identified a woman killed by a hit-and-run driver in South Linden late Monday night but are still looking for the driver of the vehicle.

Alice Johnson, 57, of Columbus, was crossing Cleveland Avenue near Maynard Avenue at approximately 10:45 p.m. when witnesses told police she was struck by a silver Jeep Liberty that was travelling southbound on Cleveland Avenue, Det. Connie Brant of the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit said.

The SUV continued southbound and left the scene, Brant said.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus fire personnel.

The vehicle was abandoned in the area of Mt. Carmel West Hospital and recovered by Columbus police shortly after the crash but Brant says the driver has not yet been identified.
