Police ID victim in hit-skip that led to officer being relieved of duty

COLUMBUS – Police have released the name of a woman who was killed last week in a hit-and-run accident on the Northeast Side involving a vehicle reportedly connected to a Columbus police officer who has been relieved of duty.

Naimo Mahdi Abdirahman, 30, was attempting to cross Morse Road at Walford Street at approximately 2:41 a.m. on April 20 when accident investigation unit detectives say she was struck by a 2022 Kia Sorrento in the eastbound lanes of Morse Road.

Witnesses told police the briefly stopped and a male passenger, who “appeared distraught,” got out to check the woman’s condition and told the bystanders to call police, investigators said.

The woman driving the SUV continued eastbound, turned onto Malin Street, and returned westbound on a service road to pick up the passenger before driving away.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is continuing, Division of Police spokesman Sgt. James Fuqua said.
