COLUMBUS – The man met a violent end, but the victim of the 142nd homicide of the year in Columbus was apparently not murdered.

Homicide Unit detectives say it appears Raven Torres was acting in self-defense when she shot her boyfriend in the hallway of an East Side hotel late Thursday night so there were no plans to immediately file criminal charges against her, Sgt. Jeff Strayer said.
Investigators found that Porfilio Hernandez was fighting with Torres, 27, his live-in girlfriend, at the InTown Suites on Hilton Corporate Drive just after 10:20 p.m. when he struck her in the head with a handgun, said Strayer.
Torres was able to gain control of the gun and when Hernandez attacked again, Strayer says she was able to fire the weapon, hitting Hernandez in the torso.
Hernandez, 29, died later at Grant Medical Center, Strayer says.
Available witness statements and physical evidence suggested Torres acted in self-defense on the part of Ms. Torres and Strayer says no charges would be filed, though the investigation continues.
