Police look for vehicle in pedestrian’s death

COLUMBUS – Columbus police are looking for one of the three vehicles that struck a man who was crossing a Southeast Side street early Sunday morning.

One of the vehicles left the scene after William Ray Johnson was hit as he crossed from the north side of Refugee Road to the south side at the intersection with Tennyson Boulevard at approximately 6:076 a.m., said Sgt. Brooke Wilson of the Accident Investigation Unit.

When Johnson, 40, was hit by a westbound vehicle, he was throw into another lane and was struck by two more vehicles, Wilson said.

Wilson says Munjed Hinnawi, 54, who was driving the first vehicle remained at the scene, as did Cheryl Flowers, 53, driver of the third vehicle and her front-seat passenger, 23-year-old Daquan Mabra.

The driver of the second vehicle left the scene before officers arrived and investigators don’t have a description of it, said Wilson

Johnson died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
