COLUMBUS – Police say a man whose body was found floating in the Scioto River near downtown Columbus Friday was the victim of an accidental drowning.

Police found the body of Corey Kemmerling, 28, shortly after 8:30 p.m. following a search of about an hour and a half, according to homicide Sgt. Stanley Latta.
Officer first received a call at 7:11 p.m. from a man who reported what he believed to be a body float by him on the Scioto River as he was fishing in the area of 566 Dublin Avenue, Latta said.
The Columbus Police Dive Team was called in Latta says they and recovered Kemmerling’s body along the north bank of the river just west of Souder Avenue, near Rickenbacker Drive, at approximately 8:36 p.m.
Latta says investigators found no signs of acute trauma and the case is being treated as an accidental drowning.
