COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus man is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning on charges that he raped an 81-year-old woman in her East Side home more than a year ago.
Shawn Malone Jr. is charged with kidnapping as well as rape, Det. Thomas Benham said.
The woman was alone in her home on a January morning in 2014 when Malone broke in and physically and sexually assaulted her, Benham said.
“We are relieved to have this suspect charged and behind bars. While any sexual assault is disturbing, a frail 81-year-old woman should never have to endure such violation,” said Benham.
Malone was in the Franklin County Jail on an unrelated burglary case when he was charged after Benham says physical evidence recently linked him to the assault.
