Police: Man shot by club guard had gun

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police say a man was shot after threatening a security guard outside an East Side after-hours club early Saturday morning.

Paul Davis, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene after officers found him, suffering from gunshot wounds, inside a vehicle which had stopped at the intersection of Colby Avenue and Beechwood Road just before 4:15 a.m., homicide detectives said.

The officers had been sent to the corner of Beechwood Road and E. Livingston Avenue on the report of a shooting near the Moonlight After-Hours club, 3836 E. Livingston Avenue, when they found Davis, investigators said.

Detectives say Davis was armed with a handgun when an incident broke out involving him and one of the club’s security personnel. After Davis left the cub, other security personnel encountered him in a vehicle and one of them shot Davis when he pulled the gun and threatened them, police said

Police did not release the name of the security officer.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, they said.
