COLUMBUS, Ohio – The first homicide victim of the year in Columbus was a would-be holdup man shot by his intended victim, police say.
At the same time officers responding to a reported shooting found David Mullins, 28, in the rear of a home on Hayden Avenue in Franklinton just after midnight Sunday, another man was calling the radio room to report he had shot a person who had attempted to rob him at gunpoint, Sgt. David Sicilian said.
Sicilian says evidence at the scene backed “indicates that the deceased appears to have been perpetrating a robbery at the time of the incident,” but 10-TV News reports Mullins’ family doesn’t think he was actually trying to rob anybody.
