COLUMBUS – Police have arrested a suspect in one murder and are looking for another in a second case.
Kevin Johnson was arrested on Tuesday night by Columbus SWAT officers on a murder charge stemming from the shooting death of Jermar Watters on June 22, according to Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit.
Police say Johnsons, 54, was fighting with Watters, 32, at Johnson‘s E. 17th Avenue home when Johnson shot Watters, who died later at OSU Wexner Medical Center.
Detectives have also filed an arrest warrant for19-year-old Gmier McCall, who has been charged with complicity for aiding in the murder of Jerome Steward in Merion Village on July 19, Marable said.
Officers found Steward, 26, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the 400 block of Southwood Avenue. Officers applied a tourniquet and administered CPR until paramedics arrived but Steward died later at Grant Medical Center.
An arrest warrant has previously been filed for Lason Booker, 20, who is charged with Steward’s murder.
What precipitated the shooting is still under investigation, Varable said.
