COLUMBUS – Police are looking for a man they say lured his estranged wife to the Galloway home they once shared and ambushed her, shooting her to death in the driveway.
UPDATE: 9/26/23 3:50 p.m.: This article replaces a previously published version and includes information released by police Tuesday afternoon
Officers called to investigate a report of a person lying in the driveway of a home at 5796 Pepperwood Court at 3:09 p.m. found Angel Gomez (above left) suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus Division of Police Homicide Unit said.
Gomez, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene and police are searching for her husband, who has been charged with murder, Marable said.
The investigation revealed that Angel and 49-year-old Jose Gomez-Santana (above right) were having marital problems and Angel had moved out of the home on Pepperwood Court and was living elsewhere, Marable said. She had not been seen at the Pepperwood address since the couple had separated several months ago.
Evidence revealed that Jose lured Angel back to the home, promising to return some property, then hid inside a vehicle parked in the driveway of the residence. When Angel arrived, Jose ambushed Angel, shooting her several times before fleeing the scene on foot, Marable said.
Jose has ties to the west side of Columbus and New York City and Marable says detectives have been told Jose has friends who will harbor him from police.
Anyone who knows Gomez-Santana’s whereabouts is asked to contact police Det. Lemmon at 614- 645-2558 or RALemmon@ColumbusPolice.org, or to call Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
