COLUMBUS – Police are looking for suspects in two shooting incidents earlier this month that left two people dead and three others injured.
Homicide unit detectives have filed arrest warrants charging 34-year-old Wayne Coffman with murder and felonious assault in connection with a shooting in the parking lot of a Northeast Side bar on March 11 that resulted in the death of a 36-year-old woman and injuries to two men.
A fight inside Podunk’s Bar, in the 1600 block of E. Dublin-Granville Road, spilled out into the parking lot, where Coffman allegedly fired shots that killed Laurence Ball and wounded two men, ages 33 and 47, Sgt. David Shimberg of the homicide unit said.
It was originally feared that the older male victim would not survive his injuries but Shimberg says his prognosis has improved.
An 18-year-old Mifflin Township man is being sought in connection with another fatal shooting the same day as the Podunk’s Bar incident.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Tayeshawn Gavin, who is accused of opening fire on a group of people in a vehicle, killing one of them and injuring another, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the homicide unit said.
Chaz Daryl Fleming, 18, died after being shot in the area of McCutcheon Road and Merwin Hill Drive.
A 20-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound at Grant Medical Center.
Two girls, age 15 and 17, and a 17-year-old boy who were in a vehicle with Fleming were not injured, Powell said.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of these suspects is asked to call the Columbus police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio CrimeStoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
