Police: suspect in homicide “armed and dangerous”

COLUMBUS – Police have charged a 19-year-old man with the death of a man found inside a vehicle after it crashed into a Southeast Side apartment building, sparking a fire.

An arrest warrant was filed for Darnell Walton in connection with the death of Savon Pullie on Jan. 12, Sgt. Jeff Strayer of the Homicide Unit said. Walton is at large and considered armed and dangerous, Strayer said.

Pullie, 21, was driving the vehicle that crashed into a building at 6391 Georges Creek Drive on the afternoon of Jan. 12. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle and the building in flames.

When firefighters extinguished the fire they found Pullie still inside where he was pronounced dead, Shimberg said.

Witnesses who initially reported the crash told police they heard gunshots in the area prior to the accident.

The passenger, Todd Hammond Jr., 20, was also in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and fled the vehicle after the accident with only minor injuries, police said.
