Police warn dangerous batch of heroin on streets

COLUMBUS – Columbus police are warning that there could be some highly potent and dangerous heroin circulating in Central Ohio after several apparent overdoses in one neighborhood over a short period of time.

Individuals that use heroin should be advised that there could be highly potent and dangerous units circulating in the Central Ohio area. All individuals in possession of heroin should destroy the units immediately. –Columbus Div. of Police statement, 09/27/16

Authorities became alarmed when nine overdose cases were reported in the Linden area within a short distance of one another, Columbus Division of Police spokesman Sgt. Rich Weiner said in a release.

Police officers and Division of Fire medics responded to several calls for service involving conscious and unconscious victims of apparent opiate overdoses Tuesday, Weiner said.

Investigators are trying to track down the origin of the product, he said.
