Poll: Ohioans happy with Kasich

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohioans are, by and large, pretty satisfied with the way things are going and that is good news for incumbent politicians, especially Gov. John Kasich.

A new poll from Quinnipiac University shows 66 percent of Ohio voters are optimistic about the next four years with Kasich as governor and give him a 55 percent job approval rating.

Voters are also happy with the jobs Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman are doing, though not nearly as enthusiastic.

As gears up for a reelection campaign next year, Republican Portman gets a passing grade from voters by a 40 to 21 percent margin, but only 37 percent say he deserves another term.

Democrat Brown gets a better grade, with a 45 percent job approval rating while only 27 percent say they don’t approve of the job he is doing.

A total of 72 percent of voters are “very satisfied” or “somewhat satisfied” with the way things are going in Ohio, and 60 percent say the state economy is “excellent” or “good.”

When asked if they are better off than they were a year ago, 45 percent of voters say “yes” while 30 percent say they are worse off and 24 percent say they are the same.

The poll conducted between Jan. 22 and Feb. 1 has a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percent.
