Possible Ohio coronavirus case investigated

COLUMBUS – The state Health Department is monitoring a new possible case of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, which has killed more than 560 people in China.

Citing privacy concerns, the department did not release any information about the individual’s identity or the city or county where they live, director Dr. Amy Acton said.

Samples from the person under investigation have been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing and Acton says the department expects results “in the coming days.”

A local health department is monitoring the individual and their contacts.

Acton said Ohio remains at low risk for an outbreak of the disease and there are no confirmed cases.

Two Miami University students who were tested last week had not contracted the virus.
