Prices at the pump headed back down

COLUMBUS – Gas prices in Columbus fell 14 cents since last Monday amid predictions of lower prices to come.

Crude oil prices are dropping and flooded refineries on the hurricane-battered Gulf Coast are returning to operation, so oil industry analyst Trilby Lundberg says she expects further price cuts as refiners make cheaper “winter grade” gasoline.

The average price for a gallon regular-grade gasoline in Columbus Monday morning was $2.23, 10 cents higher than two weeks ago, but down 23 cents from the price on Sept. 9, according to a daily survey by the auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX, Inc.

The statewide average price of $2.27 was 22 cents lower than the national average.

The price a year ago in Columbus $2.34 a gallon.
