Prices flirting with $3 a gallon

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio motorists are getting an early Christmas present: Lower prices at the gas pump.

The average retail price for a gallon of regular Monday morning was $3.09 in Columbus, 17 cents cheaper than a week ago and 8 cents lower than a year ago, the last time the average dropped to the $3-a-gallon mark. The statewide average was $3.12 in the survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s down 12 cents from last week.

Healthy production, lower demand and other factors are keeping prices lower this month.

Some stations around the state were even below the $3 mark.

The national average Monday was $3.23, down 3 cents from last week.
