Pride Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – LGBT Pride Week in Columbus got underway Tuesday night when Mayor Coleman and local leaders lit City Hall in rainbow colors.

In addition to the lights, the street sign at the intersection of Front and Broad Streets was renamed “Equality Lane”.

This is the first time the city has marked Pride Week by illuminating City Hall. The lights and street sign will remain in place all week, city officials said.

The Stonewall Columbus Pride Festival, which has become the largest in the Midwest, is underway as Ohio observes Pride Month with parades, 5K races, educational events, and festivals.

The Stonewall Columbus Pride March will be held on Saturday.

A march is scheduled in Cleveland next week and the first annual 5k Pride Fun Run and Walk is Friday, June 20, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton.

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution supporting same-sex marriage in Ohio.

The following streets will be closed from noon on Thursday to 11:59 p.m. Saturday for the Pride Festival:

Goodale Street between North High Street and Dennison Avenue
Park Street between Buttles Avenue and Swan Street

The Stonewall Columbus Pride March will take place on Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m. Formation will begin at 10:15 on Front Street between Broad Street and Main Street. Motorists should expect rolling closures along the following route:

Start from the intersection of Broad Street and Front Street
East on Broad Street to High Street
North on North High Street to Buttles Avenue
West on Buttles Avenue to the finish at Dennison Avenue
