Prosecution rests in Husel trial

COLUMBUS (AP) — Prosecutors have wrapped up their case in the trial of the former Mount Carmel Health System doctor charged in multiple hospital deaths.

Dr. William Husel is accused of ordering excessive painkillers for patients in the Columbus-area hospital.

Prosecutors said ordering such dosages for a nonsurgical situation indicated an intent to end lives.

Husel has pleaded not guilty to 14 murder counts.

His attorney says Husel was only practicing “comfort care” for his patients.

Jurors heard from 53 prosecution witnesses, including loved ones of all 14 patients, since the trial began Feb. 22.

The defense was expected to start calling witnesses Wednesday.
