Pump price relief

COLUMBUS – Central Ohio motorists are getting a break at the gas pump to start the work week after two straight weeks of price increases.

The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Columbus Monday morning was $2.15, according to a daily survey from the AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX, Inc. That is 16 cents cheaper than last Monday.

Ohio prices declined after suffering one of the biggest one-week jumps in the country between Oct. 3 and 10, blamed on seasonal refinery work at key plants like BP’s Whiting refinery and replenishment of inventory lost in September, when product had to be moved from Ohio, Indiana and Illinois to assist states in the Southeast impacted by problems on the Colonial Pipeline.

The statewide average price also dropped by double digits, to $2.16 a gallon, a 13-cent decline. Ohio’s average price was 8 cents below the national average.
