Pump prices down 34 cents this month

COLUMBUS – Gas prices continue to fall in central Ohio and at least one analysts expects further drops in the price at the pump.

The average for a gallon of regular gas in Columbus Monday morning was $2.37, 24 cents cheaper than one week ago and 50 cents less expensive than last month, according to the daily survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc.

Gas prices have remained well below the average from a year ago, when a gallon cost about $3.50.

Analysts have predicted prices will continue to drop as summer gives way to fall due to falling crude oil prices and robust production by U.S. refiners.

“This has not really hit the street yet so we might see several more cents’ decline at the pump in the near future,” said industry analyst Trilby Lundberg, whose biweekly survey showed the average price of gasoline has dropped a penny over the past two weeks to $2.82 a gallon.

According to the AAA, the national average was $2.71, or five cents cheaper than a week earlier.

The statewide average was $2.46, down 17 cents compared with last week and nearly 40 cents compared with a month ago.
