Pump prices hit the gas

COLUMBUS – Central Ohio motorists, who have suffered the biggest recent gas price increases in the U.S., saw the retail price of gasoline soar 30 cents in two weeks.

The average price of a gallon of regular gas Monday morning was $2.42, 10 cents higher than last Monday and 4 cents higher than the statewide average, according to the daily survey from the auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX, Inc.

Last week, gas prices reached their highest point since January, powered by rising oil prices and production declines due to the switch by refiners to summer-blend fuel.

Unless oil prices retreat quickly, industry analyst Trilby Lundberg says consumers should expect gasoline prices to climb a few more cents.

The nationwide average price was $2.39, up 6 cents since last Monday and 35 cents higher than the price at the same time last year.
