Pump prices trending downward

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Gas prices are higher than last Monday but are mirroring a nationwide trend toward cheaper fuel.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas was in Columbus was $2.35 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s up 14 cents from a week ago, but 3 cents less expensive than on March 30.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that the price of a regular gallon of gas nationwide dropped 5 cents in the past three weeks to $2.45 a gallon.

Lundberg says the drop came despite a rise in crude oil prices. She says retailers and refiners dropped prices to chase demand from U.S. drivers.

The statewide average price of $2.34 is 9 cents higher than a week ago, but $1.35 less than last year at this time.

Ohio prices were slightly less than the national average, which was $2.39 per gallon Monday. That’s unchanged from a week ago and $1.25 less than this time last year.
