Pumpkin Drop-off

COLUMBUS – Once Hallowe’en is over, the land is littered with millions of rotting pumpkins and not many good ways to make use of them.

So, the City of Columbus is holding its first-ever pumpkin drop-off event this year.

Pumpkins do not decompose like grass clippings or leaves and shouldn’t be mixed with yard waste for regular pickup so, during the month of November, residents may drop off their pumpkins and gourds at the Division of Refuse Collection Alum Creek Station, 2100 Alum Creek Drive, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The Division of Refuse Collection facility will accept intact and decaying pumpkins, carved jack-o’-lanterns and gourds only, no trash, food, recycling or other waste, or pumpkins that have been painted or drawn on with permanent markers.

Residents are asked to remove candles and any other non-organic items from their pumpkins.

Anyone who can’t make it to the drop-off site are encouraged to use them to feed local wildlife in the winter, donate them to local farms, compost at home and, as a last resort, toss them in the trash.
