Race for the Cure

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Thousands of pink-garbed and bewigged runners, walkers and spectators will line downtown streets Saturday morning for the 22nd Komen Columbus Race for the Cure, one of the largest such events in the country.

An estimated 40,000 people are expected to participate in this year’s race, which begins at 8:00 a.m. near City Hall and snakes through downtown Columbus before ending at the Statehouse grounds around noon, all to raise funds to battle breast cancer.

Last year participants and corporate sponsors of the Komen Columbus Race for the Cure raised $2 million.

Street closings for the race begin Friday evening:

6:00 p.m. through Saturday at approximately 3:00 p.m.:
Broad Street will close between High and 3rd streets

Saturday at 6:00 a.m. the following will close for the formation area:
Front Street between E. Gay and Rich streets
Broad Street between High Street and Civic Center Drive
High Street between Rich and Broad streets.

Participants should arrive early and expect delays. Spectators and participants should consider using COTA or carpooling to help with parking,

Motorists are warned to expect long rolling closures along the race routes and those not attending the events are advised to avoid the area if they can. Those in the area are reminded to watch for heavy bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
