COLUMBUS – Scranton/Wilkes-Barre beat the Clippers Thursday night at Huntington Park thanks to a three-run eighth inning.
The teams went back and forth until the RailRiders pulled away to take game one of the four-game set, 7-3.
Brandon Drury came to the plate and singled in Shane Robinson in the top of the fifth inning to allow Scranton to retake the lead at 4-3.
The RailRiders tacked on three more run, first on a Mitch Talbot (4-3) wild pitch, then on Rey Navarro’s two-run home run over the right field wall to extend the lead to 7-3.
Shane Bieber, on a rehab assignment from Cleveland, gave up two runs on three hits while striking out five hitters in three innings of work.
Giovanni Gallegos (2-1) got the win in relief for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The teams will be back at it Friday night with the first pitch set for 7:15 p.m.
