Record requests for new businesses

COLUMBUS – Business is booming in Ohio, at least as far as the registration of new businesses is concerned.

The office of Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted says there were 105,009 new business filings last year, the seventh consecutive year the state has seen a record number of new entities filing to do business.

The previous record was set in 2015 when 97,746 new businesses registered with the Secretary of State’s office.

New business filings include for-profit, non-profit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships.

Filing as a business in Ohio does not guarantee the company will begin operations, be profitable or create jobs, Husted said.
